Gekisai Kata 撃碎Gekisai literally means to destroy, "Di Ichi (Ni)" means number one (two). This Kata was created by the founder of Okinawa Goju Ryu, Miyagi Chojun Sensei. It consists of basic techniques which facilitate the later learning of difficult ones in the classic Kata starting from Saifa. Dai IchiClick Here for animation Step forward with RIGHT foot and shift 90° to the LEFT, into a LEFT Sanchin Stance and a LEFT Jodan (Upper) Block, followed by stepping into RIGHT Sanchin Stance with a RIGHT Punch to Chudan (middle). Then stepping backwards with RIGHT Leg into Shiko Stance with Gedan (Lower) Block - ending up facing front again. Step forward with LEFT foot and shift 90° to the RIGHT, into a RIGHT Sanchin Stance and a RIGHT Jodan (Upper) Block, followed by stepping into LEFT Sanchin Stance with a LEFT Punch to Chudan (Middle). Then stepping backwards with LEFT leg into Shiko Stance with Gedan (Lower) Block - ending up facing front again. Stepping up from Shiko into LEFT Sanchin Stance with a LEFT Chudan (Middle) Block. Step forward with RIGHT into RIGHT Sanchin Stance with a RIGHT Chudan (Middle) Block. Execute a LEFT Mae Geri and step into LEFT Zenkutsu (Long) Stance, followed by an (Elbow, Ura Uchi, Gedan block, reverse punch) combination. With the RIGHT (back) Leg sweep and turn 90° to the RIGHT into Heiko Dachi and a Shuto Uchi (KIAI). Step forward with LEFT into LEFT Sanchin Stance with a LEFT Chudan (Middle) Block. Execute a RIGHT Mae Geri and step into RIGHT Zenkutsu (Long) Stance, followed by a (Elbow, Ura Uchi, Gedan block, reverse punch) combination. With the LEFT (back) Leg sweep and turn 90° to the LEFT into Heiko Dachi and a Shuto Uchi (KIAI). With the LEFT foot step 45° backwards into RIGHT Zenkutsu Stance (Long), with a RIGHT Kake Uke followed by a Double Punch (LEFT on Top). Then Step with LEFT foot Slowly into Musubi Dachi (Heels together, toes outwards), with RIGHT Fist on RIGHT hip and LEFT fist above it. With the RIGHT foot step 45° backwards into LEFT Zenkutsu Stance (Long), with a LEFT Kake Uke followed by a Double Punch (RIGHT on Top). Using RIGHT foot step Forward into Musubi Dachi and close. Execute a RIGHT Mae Geri and step into RIGHT Zenkutsu (Long) Stance, followed by a (Elbow, Ura Uchi, Gedan block, reverse punch) combination. With the LEFT (back) Leg sweep and turn 90° to the LEFT into Heiko Dachi and a Shuto Uchi (KIAI). With the LEFT foot step 45° backwards into RIGHT Neko Ashi Dachi (Cat Stance), with a RIGHT Mawashi Uke. With the RIGHT foot step 45° backwards into LEFT Neko Ashi Dachi (Cat Stance), with a LEFT Mawashi Uke, then using LEFT foot slide back and then forward to face front, whilst drawing up hands to push out (Right- Shoulder, Left- Hip). |
