About

We are proud members of the International Karate-do Goju-Kai Association (I.K.G.A) under our Grand Master, Yamaguchi Goshi Saiko Shihan (8th/Hachidan Black Belt) Hanshi.

The Yamaguchi Goju-Kai Karate-do Association (Y.G.K.A) is the English registered name for the I.K.G.A branch in England. The Y.G.K.A are registered members of Karate England, the official governing body for Karate in England recognised by Sport England. This is the official website for the I.K.G.A throughout England (the Y.G.K.A).

The Japanese art of Karate-do is split into four main styles:
Shotokan under Funakoshi Sensei,
Wado-Ryu under Otsuka Sensei,
Goju-Ryu under Miyagi Sensei,
and Shito-Ryu under Mabuni Sensei.

Use the links on the left for more.

From these four styles, other various styles have been created as branch-offs, for example Goju-Kai under Yamaguchi Sensei and Kyokushinkai under Oyami Sensei. They have then branched off again into various associations and clubs.

The International Karate-do Goju-Kai Association / Yamaguchi Goju-Kai Karate-do Association England is based in different parts of England. We are the only association in England that train the Yamaguchi style of Goju-Ryu Karate-do (Goju-Kai) under Goshi Yamaguchi Saiko Shihan (the late Gogen Yamaguchi Sensei's third son).

Yamaguchi Gogen Kaiso was the original founder of Goju-Kai Karate-do, he was one of the top students of the Goju-Ryu founder, Miyagi Chojun Kensei.

Yamaguchi Sensei was the first president of the Japanese Karate Federation (J.K.F) Goju-Kai, but then later split away to create the International Karate-do Goju-Kai Association, and the All-Japan Karate-do Goju-Kai Association.

We are proud members of the I.K.G.A, and are registered members of the English Karate Governing Body under the name of Y.G.K.A (Yamaguchi Goju-Kai Karate-do Association).

We train traditional Goju-Kai Karate-do as well as sport Karate for competitions. When in the dojo, we are very strict in the way we train, following regards to rank, titles and etiquette.
